Alright, it is not the first time this happens, and it's really getting on my nerves.
First off, a few things:
– Not all Brazilians can samba, or even appreciate the genre/dance;
– Not all Brazilians are corrupt;
– Not all Brazilians are into your culture and/or know anything about it, in except for a few movies that, once again, not all Brazilians have watched;
– Not all Brazilians are nerds that collect every single piece of memorabilia from popular things in our country;
And, most of all, and most importantly,
– BRAZILIANS. ARE. NOT. EXOTIC.
We are your fellas, citizens of the World, and we deserve to be treated as such. I don't care if you spent your whole life watching movies like Rio or Assalto ao Banco Central (unlikely, but hey, miracles happen), THEY. ARE. NOT. THE. REALITY. It's fiction. Every fiction is based off of a reality, but it's not the rule. We have the same good people/bad people ratio as any other country, we have our likes and dislikes like any other country, we live and behave, as amazing as it may seem, like. any. other. country. Researching doesn't kill, and stopping to stereotype people based off of their nationality doesn't hurt either.
Next time, think twice before asking me to do a Lilo and Stitch/Zé Carioca collab or assume I have rare Monica's Gang HQs.
Sincerely yours,
A tired Brazilian.
